Susan Wetzel is a partner with Haynes and Boone, LLP, and currently serves as the Chair of Haynes and Boone’s Employee Benefit/Executive Compensation practice group, and counsels employers, executives and members of corporate boards regarding design, implementation, and compliance issues relating to retirement plans, welfare plans, employee benefits, executive compensation, and mergers and acquisitions.
She is a frequent speaker on employee benefits issues at seminars for human resources groups, bar associations, individual companies, and continuing education seminars. Susan is a former Chair of the American Bar Association Section of the Taxation Employee Benefits Committee and former Co-Chair of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section Employee Benefits/Executive Compensation Committee. In 2017, Susan was inducted into the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, Inc. as a Fellow, and has served the College on its membership committee and as the JCEB liaison.
Susan was named one of the Best Lawyers under 40 in 2006, and for numerous years has been names in Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine and Texas Super Lawyers by Thomson Reuters. She also is listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America in Employee Benefits Law by Woodward/White, Inc. and has been recognized by Chambers USA.
She is the President of the DWLA Foundation, a member of DWLA’s Board of Directors, a member of the board of directors for the American Heart Association Dallas division, Chair of the Executive Leadership Team for the AHA Go Red for Women campaign, and a member of her law school alumni board of directors.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband of over 20 years, her two daughters, ages 15 and 13 and their dogs Rocky and Rose, and practicing yoga.
