John Paliga is a practitioner and an adjunct professor of law in a Tax LL.M and Employee Benefits Certificate program. John’s practice is centered on deferred compensation, and he also has detailed knowledge of employee welfare benefits. John regularly works with employers, plans, and individuals in the following areas:
• tax-qualified defined benefit and defined contribution plans (multi-employer and single-employer),
• non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements,
• plan distribution issues, especially QDROs and other division orders, and
• health care benefits, especially the Affordable Care Act.
John has regularly worked with business leaders to address employee benefit issues in mergers, acquisitions and loan refinancing. John has served as the employee benefits lawyer to businesses involved in bankruptcy reorganization proceedings.
John has significant experience in employee benefits litigation, including having prepared testimony and served as an expert witness. Judges, retirement plans, individuals, and domestic relations lawyers regularly seek John’s assistance in dividing retirement assets in connection with divorce proceedings.
John is a Neutral Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and he has been trained in Collaborative Law.
